Charlene Bayer, HiBR Core Founding (Steering) Member and Chairman/Chief Science Officer of Hygieia Sciences LLC – the company she founded to commercialize her technology for detecting breast cancer and other human diseases from breath and her IAQ/exposures research.  Additionally she is a Principal Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute of the Georgia Institute of Technology focusing primarily on indoor environmental and exposure/health research. She has a PhD and MS from Emory University in Chemistry.  Dr. Bayer is the Secretary of ASHRAE TC2.3 and active on multiple other ASHRAE committees, a member of the USGBC IAQ Performance Testing WorkGroup, and a former member of the USGBC Research Committee.  For 29+ years, she has led large research programs investigating all aspects of the indoor environment, such as building diagnostics; product emissions; contaminant sources identification and control; strategic ventilation strategies; airborne exposures on asthma and respiratory health; schools IAQ; real-time instrumentation development; and interfacing healthy indoor environments and energy efficiency. Dr. Bayer is the holder of multiple patents and is the author of more than 150 technical papers.
 
Dr. Bayer is one of the original founders of HiBR.  Her expertise is in the indoor environment and exposures research, as well as her interest in the interface between healthy indoor environments and energy efficiency support the mission and vision of HiBR.  She is actively presenting technical papers supporting the HiBR goals at international conferences and is bidding on chairing a major international Healthy Buildings Conference to be held in 2015.  Dr. Bayer is in the process of setting up a non-profit corporation to support the non-governmental aspects of HiBR.
