Brandon Hartz

Mr. Brandon Hartz currently serves as the NIH Landscape Architect for the Bethesda campus and has over 15 years of professional experience in landscape architectural design, project management, and construction administration in both the public and private sectors. As a landscape architect, Mr. Hartz is responsible for either designing or reviewing all site-related projects for the NIH Bethesda campus. Since joining NIH in June of 2016, Mr. Hartz has initiated or advocated for projects such as adding pedestrian LED pole lights along the multi-use trail at Rockville Pike, adding a green roof to the steam station south of Building 37, increasing tree plantings to grow the NIH forest canopy, and renovating the butterfly garden at Building 49 South. Mr. Hartz has a special interest in environmentally sustainable landscapes, from design through construction and ongoing maintenance. The common thread of his past work is telling a sustainable story through his projects; timeless work that not only preserves and enhances natural systems but positively impacts the human experience of the space. Mr. Hartz holds an MLA in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and a BLA in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech. He has previously taught graduate level courses at Virginia Tech and George Washington University.
